Description

This module will analyse the profound political, cultural, and social changes that led to the downfall of the Roman Republic and the establishment of a new regime by the victorious Caesar Augustus, a period of turmoil called the Roman Revolution by some modern scholars. We will aim at understanding these changes in the context of ongoing cultural and political processes that had affected the city of Rome in the previous decades. This was a period marred by internal political violence, and for which we have an impressive wealth of contemporary documents written by some of the protagonists of the events.
